Things I've Learned

by John Walsh (John Walsh)

You can’t live this long without learning some truths
Like the world don’t revolve just around you
Be kind to your mother, you only get one
Be the kind of man you’d be proud to call son
These are the things I’ve learned

Fight if you have to but try and walk away
Then two men get to live and fight another day
When you find a good woman don’t let her go
Makes sure you love her and make sure she knows
These are the things I’ve learned

These are the things I’ve learned
Not at school and not in church
Some for better, some for worse
These are the scars I’ve earned
These are the things I’ve learned

Don’t spend money that you haven’t got
Don’t carry a gun unless you want to get shot
You don’t have to shout if you want to get heard
If you’re feeling angry don’t say a word
These are the things I’ve learned

These are the things I’ve learned
Not at school and not in church
Some for better, some for worse
These are the scars I’ve earned
These are the things I’ve learned

Bridge

I’ve learned enough to get by
Enough to buy me trouble
I’ve learned to let sleeping dogs lie
I’ve lied and I’ve struggled

These are the things I’ve learned
Not at school and not in church
Some for better, some for worse
These are the scars I’ve earned
These are the things I’ve learned

These are the scars I’ve earned
These are the things I’ve learned
