Hard Time Livin' 

Daddy said, "You gotta work, boy, work hard for a living."
Well I been scraping up pennies from a seven days work; busting timber for The man. He steals the bread that he puts in my hand and tries to tell me, tell me this the promised land.
It's a hard, hard time living. They'll rob a man in working boots.

You know it's hard growing up in the south, trying to squeeze a dollar from a nickel just to put food in my little boys mouth.
I ain't got nothing left, except these shoes on my feet and this heart in my chest, if it will just keep beating for a couple of days, so i can get this paycheck, keep these damn bills paid. They try to say we got it made, Lord! , but it's a hard time livin here.
