The Troubled Tears Of Drury Road

by Sean Murphy (All The Queen's Horses)

Verse 1

The changing of the seasons can be worse for the better

A simple life lesson condensed in a letter

Ava my dear have your cloth made to measure, for the seasons bring changeable weather

Verse 2

Sing with the choir and sing me a note, you’ll swim through the seasons that keep you afloat, stay there for months dear, in your chesterfield coat, I might show you the stars you’re not seeing.

Verse 3

The winter of our discontent is stained in the trees, I’ll show you the scars if you lie next to me, Spring mends your balance and mends all your trees and tie’s ropes when you’re scaffolding’s swaying.

Chorus

The troubled tears of Drury Road made us ten feet tall

The Spring will bring the brightness back after the darkness falls

Our resolve is stronger dear with our backs against the wall

And like a a seasons will rise, another will fall

Verse 4

It’s hard to imagine where were you going

Could you still look in and see the winds blowing

Forlorn and frosty and nothing is growing

But I don’t think they’d let you be going

Verse 5

You didn’t need to win every single argument, agree to disagree, nothing’s a tournament. No one kept score, and no results were permanent. The change winds don’t need to be turbulent.

Chorus

The troubled tears of Drury Road made us ten feet tall

The Spring will bring the brightness back after the darkness falls

Our resolve is stronger dear with our backs against the wall

And like a a seasons will rise, another will fall

Verse 6

When you cried with someone it was better than alone

You made peace with your past and the present atoned

You didn’t compare others you journeyed alone

You were plenty and willing and able

Verse 8

Time was a healer and you’d wait in the line

It was a hard thing to do to give time the time

Patience is a virtue and impatience a crime

Your summer was florid and bravely

Verse 7

You’re royal and regal don’t spend your time crying

Get busy living or get busy dying

Life is too short and winter’s too trying

So tie up the ropes you’re untying

Chorus

The troubled tears of Drury Road made us ten feet tall

The Spring will bring the brightness back after the darkness falls

Our resolve is stronger dear with our backs against the wall

And like a a seasons will rise, another will fall
